NACHCHIYAR THIRUMOZHI – 6 PASURAMS – 556 – 566 VARANAM AYIRAM Andal Verbalising her dream about marriage to her close friend . Even after several request made to the cuckoo bird to bring her master, it doesn’t seem to have helped her. Considering her desperate situation, kaNNan decided to bestow on her the beautiful experience of ‘THE WEDDING’, through each and every ritual in her dream. Delved in that experience, she narrates the same to her close friend. 556 * vAraNam Ayiram * sUzha valam seydhu *  nAraNa nambi * nadakkinRAn enRedhir **  pUraNa poRkudam * vaiththup puram13 engkum *  thOraNam nAttak * kanAk kaNdEn thOzhI! nAn (1) 556. Oh my dear Sakhi! Listen to the dream that I had. Surrounded by thousand elephants, my master “NARAYANAN NAMBI”, is  majestically entering the hall and walking in front of me. I see the whole place decorated with thoranams wearing a festive look, and the golden PUrana kumbham is also kept. (1) 🌺Here the arrival of the groom is denoted . This is kind of

NACHCHIYAR TIRUMOZHI 5 PASURAMS 545 - 555 Mannu perum pugazh… Even after getting a paired result, in the KooDal game, KaNNan doesn't seem to be coming. AndAl gets distracted by the singing of a cuckoo and starts pleading the cuckoo bird to bring her kaNNan to her. She is remembered of the cuckoo bird singing when they both met once in a grove. 545 * mannu perumpugazh mAdhavan * mAmaNi vaNNan maNimudi maindhan thannai * ugandhadhu kAraNamAga * en sangkizhakkum vazhakkuNdE? ** punnai kurukkaththi njAzhal serundhip * podhumbinil vAzhum kuyilE! * panni eppOdhum irundhu viraindhu * en pavaLavAyan varak kUvAy (1) 1  Oh! Cuckoo dwelling in the holes of the thick grooves having punnai, kurukatti, nyAzhal, and cherunti trees! Due to my extreme desire, to unite with the consort of Mahalakshmi, who has countless virtues and blue hued wearing the gem studded crown, I am becoming thin and loosing my bangles. If you think that this is not fair please sing His divine names so that my coral lippe

NACHCHIYAR TIRUMOZHI---4  PASURAMS 534-544 *teLLiyAr palar* Once when kaNNan leaves, after the garment dispute, AndAl's  longing to unite with Him escalates. As a forlorn lover, she resorts to find out if she can unite with Him, by trying out the koodal izhaittal game. KOODAL IZHAITTAL This is a game played generally by teenagers, to find out if their desire be fulfilled. There are many ways to play this.  1)One way is to draw concentric circles and pair it to find if it becomes even. In case of being even, they believe it to be a good omen or otherwise not. 2)Another way is to spread some sand and start drawing a circle with one finger, being blindfolded. If the circle gets completed, they count it to be a positive sign. 3)One more way is to throw few shells within a circled area closing the eyes.  Later one can find out how many can be paired. Once the pair turns out to be an even number, they consider it to be promising. *koodidu koodalE*--- At the end of every pAsuram, this ph

NACHCHIYAR TIRUMOZHI 3 PASURAMS 524 TO 533 KOzhi azhaipadan munnam Pleading with Kannan to give back their garments.  The next prank (tiruvilaiyAdal) that KaNNan makes with the Ayar pAdi girls after spoiling their sand castles.    AndAl in this tirumozhi brings out  the essence of "kaNNan's vastrApaharaNa", episode from srImad bhAgavata sAram. Thinking that KaNNan would be tired from disturbing them in the previous rendezvous and be sleeping, AndAl and her friends decide to leave early in the morning to bathe in the pond and leaving all their clothes on the bank, get into the water. To their dismay this mischievous dark hued boy comes following behind them, takes all their clothes and carries it atop the kurundai tree. Realising the situation the girls plead KaNNan to return their clothes.  524 * kOzhi azhaippadhan munnam * kudaindhu nIrAduvAn pOndhOm * Azhiyanj selvan ezhundhAn * aravaNai mEl paLLi koNdAy! **  Ezhaimai AtRavum pattOm * ini enRum poygaikku vArOm *  thOzh

NACHCHIYAR TIRUMOZHI 2* PASURAMS 514 – 523 NAmam Ayiram.... Realising the intense intention of the Aychiyar girls to unite with Him, KaNNan is startled and confused at the thought that, “why should the Ayar girls be worried to get united with me, when it is me, who have to be really worried about the union with them? For the same reason, instead of approaching me, why do they seek the help of a different deity?”  So kaNNan decides to appear before AndAl, to help her in the similar way He helped the gopikAs of gokulam by stopping their offerings to Lord Indra and diverting it to Govardhana mountain.  Here AndAl tries to ignore Him and even picks up a tiff with him arguing and fighting, not to spoil and destroy the small sand castles that they have made for their deity kAmadevan. “engal siRRil vandu sidaiyELE” 514 * nAmam Ayiram Eththa ninRa *  nArAyaNA! naranE! * unnai mAmi than maganAgap petRAl *  emakku vAdhai thavirumE **  kAmanpOtharu kAlam enRu *  pangkuni nAL kadai pAriththOm * t

NACHIYAR THIRUMOZHI - 1 PASURAM : 504 – 513 1.THAIORU THINGALUM KANNANAI PERA KAAMANAI THOZHUDAL We have seen earlier that Andal initiated and conducted the PAvai nOnbu to get Kannan as her husband by singing the 30 ThiruppAvai pAsurams. Yet she did not get the anubhavam of uniting with HIM. After a lot of thinking she decides to pray to Manmathan or kAman, as it is believed that his flower arrows have the power of uniting lovers. Hence she prays to him to get her united with her EmperumAn. 504.thai oru thingaLum tharai viLakkith thaN maNdalamittu mAsi munnAL

NAYCHIYAR TIRUMOZHI

NAYCHIYAR TIRUMOZHI This is the second Prabandam rendered by the one and only lady AzhvAr ANDAL, out of her two contribution and placed as the fourth Prabandam of MudalAyiram in the entire compilation.  This Prabandam portrays the longing (விரக தாபம்) of the lady love who is separated from her lover. As the duo goes  nAyagan - nAyagi PirAn - PiraaTTi  Thalaivan - thalaivi, here it goes NAYAN (nArAyaNan) - NAYCHCHI (AndAl) As it is the divine rendition of nAychchi, it is known as “nAchiyar tirumozhi” ANDAL is considered as the embodiment of Bhoomi PiraaTTi.  Even after revealing her utmost bakthi to the Lord, she finds that, He does not appear before her to fulfil her wishes and so in her distress she goes to the extent of getting help from kAmadevan (lord of love). For the doubt that arises, whether praying to a subordinate deity is acceptable as a staunch devotee of Lord nArAyNa, who are referred as “ மறந்தும் புறந்தொழா மாந்தர்”, [nAnmugan tiruvandAdhi - 68(2449) ], the convincing an
