Madhurakavi azhvAr in these 11 verses talks in detail about his reverence to his AchArya. It is generally said that, one should not pronounce the mantram taught openly to others, but talk and propagate the glory of the guru or AchArya who taught us the mantrAs. Madhurakavi AzhvAr having found his guru in Nammazhwar propounded about his greatness and the pleasure attained thereafter.

937. This wondrous lord (perumAyan), kaNNan, made himself accessible to be tied with a thin knotted, not so long a rope (kaNNi nuN chiRuththAmbinAl). My tongue and taste buds becomes sweet and nectarine, the moment I refer and utter the name of my AchAryan ,virtuous in all ways, who manifested himself moving closer to me from my father (enappan - referring to kaNNan), in this beautiful place of tirukkurugUr. 938. I take immense pleasure, when my sweetened tongue repeatedly practice the names of AzhvAr. I constantly beseech his divine feet as I am truly not aware of any other god, other than him. I vow to take my master’s verses who rules tirukkurugUr to various places by singing it with a tune, to the happiness of listeners. (2)

939.By totally surrendering myself at the gracious feet of AzhvAr and roaming about singing the prabandams, I was able to visualise the blue hued tirumEni of the consort of MahAlakshmi along with PiraaTTi, who is the head of the nithyasoories without directly surrendering unto him. This is the benefit of love that I received being the servitor of my AchAryan tirukkurugUr nambi, and indirectly became the servitor of the lord as well. (3)

940.vEdic scholars filled with the knowledge that the means and the goal is none other than the lord himself, well versed in all the four vEdAs consider me very lowly. On the contrary, my swAmi nammAzhvAr, being referred as shatAri, who is the epitome of virtuous qualities, taking the stand of a father and mother, accepted me, who has turned towards serving AzhvAr and rules me over. 941. In the past, I trusted and desired even others wealth to be mine and had an eye on women too. Whereas now I have surrendered at the feet of nammAzhvAr who governs tirukkurugUr with its golden mansions and have become his ardent devotee. (5)

942.AzhvAr’s grace led me propagate and sing his praise forever from this day onwards, after gaining eminence with undeterred focus. My swAmi
nammAzhvAr, who was born and governs this place rich with mansions called tirukkurugUr will never ever let me down. (6)

943.My swAmi kArimAra pirAn, born as the son of Sri kAri, in the mAran clan, opened his eyes, accepted and graced me who stood next to him waiting to be accepted as his servitor. At that very moment of his glance he removed all of my accumulated sins and blessed me. Hence, I shall propagate his glory and his prabandams such that everyone gets to know his greatness. (7)

944.SwAmi nammAzhvAr composed the beautiful essence of the vEdAs into tamizh prabandam, for the exultation of the devotees, who rejoice in the mercy of emperumAn, to listen and internalize the true meaning. Hence,his mercy and grace exalts emperumAn’s as he wrote close to 1000 hymns, that can be chanted even by those who have no access to vEdAs. (8)

945.My swAmi, also referred as Sadagopan who is a complete personification of kalyANa gunAs, has etched the inner meaning of the vEdAs sung by Vedic sages into my mind permanently. Engaging myself as his servitor, and enjoying the pleasure out of it will be the only way to show my gratitude to him. (9)

946.Oh! Nambi, born in tirukkurugUr surrounded by orchards, enjoyed by the cuckoos, you admonish and take people to your servitude unmindful of whether there is any benefit out of them (payan anRu Agilum) or they really deserve it (pAngu allar Agilum). I strive for the eternal love towards your divine feet. (10)
