 PERIYAZHWAR TIRUMOZHI - 4.5

PASURAMS 371 - 380

4.5 - AASAIVAI

Azhwar's advise.  Here Azhwar advises to involve in nAma sankeertanam and hence  name our children after HIS divine name so that we utter his nAmam automatically.

371:## aasaivaay senRa sindhaiyaraahi* annai aththan enpuththirar boomi*

vaasavaar kuzhalaaL enRu mayaNGgi* maaLum ellaik kaNvaay thiRavaadhE*

kEsavaa! purushOththamaa! enRum* kEzhalaakiyakEdilee! enRum*

pEsuvaaravar eydhum perumai* pEsuvaan puhil n^am paramanRE. (2) 1.

371. Even as the soul is leaving the body, do not let your mind  waver  and lament - “my mother, father, children, land and my wives with fragrant hair”, instead cry out KESAVA, PURUSHOTHAMA, THE BLEMISHLESS VARAHA MOORTHY!!. No words can explain the bliss that one gets by chanting these names. (1)

372: seeyinaal seRindhERiya puNmEl*seRRalERik kuzhambirundhu* eNGgum-

eeyinaal arippuNdu mayaNGgi*ellai vaay senRu sErvadhan munnam*

vaayinaal n^amO n^aaraNaa venRu*maththahaththidaik kaihaLaik kooppi*

pOyinaal pinnai iththisaikku enRum*piNaik kodukkilum pOhavottaarE. 2.

372. Even at the death bed, when wounds all over the body become putrid and swarm with flies,  getting  fainted and unconscious and before getting into the fag end of life if one utters "NAMO NARAYANA", with folded hands, he will attain the abode of heaven. Having attained the abode of nityasooris, they will not allow him to go back. (2)

373: sOrvinaal poruL vaiththadhuNdaahil*sollu sollenRu suRRum irundhu*

aarvinavilum vaaythiRavaadhE*andhakaalam adaivadhan munnam*

maarvam enbadhOr_kOyil amaiththu*maadhavan ennum dheyvaththai n^aatti*

aarvamenbadhOr poovidavallaarkku*aravathaNdaththil uyyalumaamE. 3.

373. Even at the last hour, if our relatives surround us and ask about all the hidden wealth and treasures, we would not be in a position to open our mouths. Before such time if  one is able to build a beautiful temple in the heart ,consecrate  the unparalled "MADHAVAN" and offer Him the flowers of  Bhakthi , he will be saved from the miseries of YamA. (3)

374: mEl ezhundhadhOr vaayuk kiLarndhu* mEl midaRRinai uLLezha vaaNGgi*

vElaivaNNanai mEvudhiraahil*viNNahaththinil mEvalumaamE. 4.

374. Even at the time when the "PrANa vAyu" raises itself up, palpitating the heart and choking the throat, the hands and legs shudder; before the eyes could slowly fall into deep eternal sleep, utter the single Moola PraNava Mantram which is the essence of all Vedas and holding on to it for three mAtrAs (3 times measure),at the same time, thinking of the ocean coloured Lord, one can attain "Paramapadham". (4)

375: madi vazhi vandhu n^eer pulan sOra*vaayilattiya kaNYchiyum meeNdE*

kadai vazhi vaarak kaNdamadaippa* kaNNuRakkam adhaavadhan munnam*

thodai vazhi ummai n^aayhaL kavaraa*soolaththaal ummaip paayvadhum seyyaar*

idaivazhiyil n^eer kooRaiyum izhaveer*irudeekEsan enREththavalleerE. 5.

375. Even before you urinate unconciously due to the fear of death,  before the liquid food you take chokes the throat and spills from the corner of the lips, before death ,the first eternal sleep  occurs, start praising" HRISHIKESA". If you can do that the dogs of Yamaa will not devour your thighs; the servants of Yama will  not poke you with their spears; you will not loose your dress midway. (5)

376: aNGgam vittavai aindhum ahaRRi*aavi mookkinil sOdhiththa pinnai*

saNGgam vittavar_kaiyai maRiththu*paiyavE thalai saayppadhan munnam*

vaNGgam vittulavum kadaRpaLLi maayanai*madhusoodhananai maarbil-

thaNGga vittu vaiththu* aavadhOr karumam saadhippaarkku* enRum saadhikkalaamE.6.

376. Even before loosing the five senses from the body, while people sitting around keep their fingers under the nose to verify if the breath is still there and after confirming, place the head down, - think , realize and meditate on "MADHUSUDHANAN". Those who surrender temselves to the One who rests on the vast deep ocean will certainly be His kainkaryaparas eternally. (6)

377: thennavan thamar seppamilaadhaar*sEvadhakkuvaar pOlap puhundhu*

pinnum van_kayiRRaal piNiththeRRi*pin munnaaha izhuppadhan munnam*

innavan inaiyaan enRu solli*eNNi uLLaththu iruLaRa n^Okki*

mannavan madhusoodhan enbaar*vaanahaththu manRaadihaL thaamE. 7.

377. Even as the ruthless peolpe curtail the male calves for pulling the carts, so do the YamadhUthas with their pAsa kayiru drag forcibly one without their consent to the Yamalog. Before death could occur like this , if you bring "MADHUSUDHANAN", who is the king even for Yama, in your mind, and meditate upon His qualities, you will be certainly blessed with Paramapadham. (7)

378: koodik koodi_uRRaarhaL irundhu* kuRRam n^iRka n^aRRaNGgaL paRaindhu*

paadippaadi_Or_paadaiyil ittu*narippadaikku oru paahudam pOlE*

kOdimoodi eduppadhan munnam*kowththuvamudai gOvindhanOdu*

koodiyaadiya uLLaththaraanaal* kuRippidam kadandhu uyyalumaamE. 8.

378. Forgetting the bad deeds, the relatives join together and talk in praise of the deceased and cry. They will even sing in praise of him and cry. They will then place the body on the pyre and close it with a new cloth and these cunning group of people will take you for the final rites. Before this could happen, if you meditate on the great qualities of  "GOVINDHAN", who wears the rare Kousthubam on His heart, you will be eternally saved from entering the Yamapuram. (8)

379: vaayoru pakkam vaaNGgi valippa*vaarndha n^eerk kuzhik kaNkaL mizhaRRa*

thaay oru pakkam thandhai oru pakkam*thaaramum oru pakkam alaRRa*

thee Oru pakkam sErvadhan munnam* seNGgaNmaalodum sikkena suRRa-

maay* oru pakkam n^iRka vallaarkku*arava thaNdaththil uyyalumaamE. 9.

379. At the time of death, the mouth may become disoriented, eyes may shed tears, the kith and kin , parents and wife will cry their heart out. After death they will burn the body. Before such a plight occurs, accept the Lotus eyed Lord as your destiny and engage in divine activity, then you can escape the cruel punishments of Yama. (9)

PHALASRUTHI

380:## seththuppOvadhOr pOdhu n^inaindhu*seyyum seyhaihaL dhEva piraanmEl*

siththam n^an_koruNGgith thirumaal mEl*senRa sindhai peRuvar_thaamE. (2)

380. PERIYAZHWAR explained about the miseries that occur during the time of death, and the attainment of Paramapadam, for those who surrender at His feet. Those who recite these ten verses written by Srivilliputhur Vishnuchithan will always be thinking of Lord SRIMAN NARAYANAN.
