THONDARADIPODI AZHVAR*
🙏🙏🙏🙏
TonDaraDipOdi AzhvAr was born in the Tamizh month of mArgazhi under the astronomical star jyestha (nakshatram) in the Tamizh year of prabhava. He belonged to Mandangudi of the chozha kingdom. He is believed to be the divine incarnation of Lord Vishnu's vanamAla (garland) called 'Vaijayanti'.
Born in the 'vipra' community, his father Veda visharadhar named his child "VIPRANARAYANA", and made him a prolific scholar in all the four VEdas and its six branches called the vedAngAs .
Getting the ceremonial branding of shanku and chakra called the panchasamskAra at the right age he engaged himself in nurturing a garden (nandhavanam) near the temple and making garlands for Lord Ranganatha after leaving his hometown and reaching Srirangam.
As a humbled person not interested in family life he received alms every single day for his living and was very empathetic towards old and young people without any discrimination.

EARLY LIFE
One day a beautiful woman named DEVADEVI saw the garden along with vipranarayana and decided to make both her possessions, but Vipranarayana did not even look at her.
In the disguise of an ascetic , she entered his house as well as his heart and got him trapped in the Maya.
Seeing the condition of his devotee, the Lord himself, under the influence of goddess Periya PiraaTTi, wanted to rescue him and came as a servant, thus helping him to get out of the trap.
The servant gave a golden vessel to devadevi stating that vipranarayanan had sent it as a gift and on receiving it she let abandoned vipranarayana inside her house.
The next day vipranarayanan was arrested for having found the temple possession in his house. Later again under the influence of Periya pirATTi, one night the lord came in the dreams of the king and instructed him to relieve vipranarayanan.
Thus impressing His devotee The Lord blessed him to get immersed in the devotion towards him .

THE REASON BEHIND HIS NAME :
🐚🐚🐚🐚🐚🐚🐚
From then on, to realise and always remember the subservient state that a person has to be, towards the lord, AzhvAr lived taking the dust from the feet of the devotees on his head and hence came to be referred as THONDARADIPODI (in Tamil) or BakthAngrireNu (in Sanskrit). Involving himself in the kainkaryam to Lord Ranganatha, he lived for 105 years, singing the praise of none other than Lord Ranganatha alone.

WORKS:
📖📖📖📖📖📖
He has rendered two Prabandams altogether, the first one being TIRUMALAI  consisting of 45 verses and the next being TIRUPALLIEZHUCHI consisting of 10 verses. Tiruppalliezhuchi verses are sung in Srirangam temple as a wake up call for the presiding deity everyday.
The famous maxim, “திருமாலை அறியாதவன் திருமாலை அறியான் - tirumAlai ariyAdavan tirumAlai ariyAn”, meaning, one who has not read tirumAlai pAsurams can never be aware of Lord tirumAl clearly states  the depth of he songs.

THE MUTUAL REVERENCE OF AZHVAR'S:
💞💞💞💞💞💞💞
TIRUMANGAI AZHVAR, had profound esteem towards THONDARADIPODI AzhvAr and the two gardens (the flower and the tulasi), that was being nurtured by him. This can be understood by the gesture shown by Thirumangai AzhvAr, to include the garden that stood as an obstruction, blocking half way inside and half way outside, while building a straight wall, a protecting rampart (மதிள்) around the temple. It is understood that TIRUMANGAI AzhvAr thought, what if the wall is not straight? He included the garden into the the wall by slightly making a curved wall and named it *"அடையவளைந்தான்"*, (Adayavalanchan) ( meaning curved to include).

AdippAdi arangkavO! enRazhaikkum * thoNdaradippodi
Ada nAm peRil * (Perumal tirumozhi 2-2)
It is said that KULASEKARA AZHVAR, composed these lines having in mind THONDARADIPODI AzhvAr.
It is considered a great honour to be referred by another AzhvAr in his Prabandam, which this parama bhagavada THONDARADIPODI AzhvAr enjoys.
