788.The knowledgeable people refer you as SriKrishna, who shook the monstrously grown, fruit laden wood apple tree, such that all the fruits fell, thereby killing the disguised asura kapiththAsura and putting an end to the asura guised in the beautiful kurunda tree as well. Later, with your hands, you made the demon kesi, into two parts, who came in the guise of a horse.

They also know that you are the one who drank mother yashodA's milk, relished the butter, even tasted the breast milk of the demoness pootanA and in the end swallowed the earth into your small stomach as you lie on the banyan leaf as an infant. It is you, who at the beginning of the kalpa, took the varAha form, in order to retrieve the submerged earth and the same vAmana moorti. Your soulabhyam and compassion is well exhibited in all the avatArs. (37)

789. Oh! Lord Krishna!, you plucked the tusk of the aggressive musth elephant kuvalayApeetam, danced on the hood of the venomous kAlia snake on the banks of Yamuna, saving the animals and the people of vrindAvan. Oh! Dark cloud hued KrishNa who danced with stacked pots on your head, you adorn the cool Tulasi garland on your divine chest. You posed a threat of death to the demon kAlanEmi . In all these deeds of yours, you eliminated the evil and protected  the innocent. (38)

790. Oh! Lord, you churned the ocean waters using the mandara mountains (verpeduthu) for the sake of retrieving the lost wealth of dEvas, on account of Indra seeking your refuge. Further more, throwing  several rocks (verpu) on the ocean (velaineer) you built the Sethu bandhan. Using the bridge as the connect you reached the beautiful island surrounded by seas and fortified by the trikoota mountains(verpedutha vinjisoozh) and destroyed Lanka thoroughly. Are you not the cloud hued Lord who smashed IndrA's ego, by lifting the govardhan hill(verpeduthu mAri kAtha), and    protected the cowherds from IndrA's wrath? (39)

791.Rescuing and protecting elephant gajEndra (yaanai kAthu) on one hand, you killed elephant kuvalayApeetam (yaanai kondru)on the other hand, being born as a child in the cowherd clan. Pasturing the cows in Gokulam, you stayed relishing the butter from their milk. When Indra caused the torrential rain, you protected the cows by lifting the Govardhana mountain. In the yore days, for the sake of your collyrium laid, beautiful eyed lady Nappinnai, you struck all the  seven bulls in one go. I stand awestruck with all your fete Oh Krishna!  (40)

792.Oh, wondrous Lord,  being born in the cowherd clan, you willingly married the cowherdess Nappinnai having shoulders as beautiful as the bamboo stalk. Who in this world and in the upper, can analyse and comprehend your nature, Oh lord? It is not because of the association of the embodied soul with this prakriti which is mAya, that one is unable to comprehend you, even brahma and others who are all capable (sarvagnyar) too stand in the same state. That being so, finding the jeevAs not inclined towards you the almighty, who has given the panchEndriam, to worship the supreme, they get carried away by mAya. Hence in order to emancipate the jEvAs, with your sankalpam you brought out the dissolution and took them unto you. Isn't these all marvellous?(41)

793.Oh lord, who, for the sake of winning Nappinnai pirATTi, without any inhibition, fearlessly tamed the seven aggressive bulls, please tell me the reason without any hesitation, how you filled the skull stuck hand of Lord Rudra, who is the authority of destruction and hence possess ash smeared reddish hued body, adorning the crescent moon on his mated locks, with the blood from your body? Is there any other reason, other than the fact that you are the supreme reality?

In this pAsuram AzhvAr tries to tell that, even after killing the seven bulls, Lord Krishna remained unaffected by karma as he is the paramapurusha who is nirmalan. Whereas Lord shiva suffered from his unrighteousness and had to seek Lord vishnu's help. (42)

794. Oh! Lord, you are like collyrium, the dark hued, Adipurusha or AdidEva. The reason being, you smashed the  aggressive elephant kuvalayApeetam by breaking its whitish tusk. You killed the strong and wrathful King kamsa who posed to be a burden for the earth. You slurped the life out of the demoness pOtana as if drinking her poison smeared breast milk. Later, taking the form of Trivikrama, you placed your divine foot on all beings of the world without any discrimination, as you measured it. Aren't these not enough to prove that you are the Adipurusha ? (AdidEvanallaiyE?)(43)

795.Talking about the dark hue of the lord, in this pAsuram, AzhvAr is reminded of how in all the four yugAs , according to the GunAs of the beings in the respective yugA, Lord has chosen his colour.

White as a milk in the “kruta yugA” ( because people predominantly had satva Guna)

Red like gold in the “Treta yugA” ( as rajo gunam dominated and gold denoted richness of value)

Light green as the outside of the soft moss, in “dwapara yugA”

Dark bluish black like the dark hue of the bees hovering blue lilies of the fresh water ponds  in “Kali yugA”.

Thus emperumAn exhibits his easy accessibility in each and every yuga, according to the nature of that particular yuga Still being the prime controller. Why doesn't people realise this and run behind this mundane world? is what AzhvAr sighs about. (44)

796. Sympathising the samsAric state in the previous pAsuram, even though being one among them, he  stands out saying, he wonders and ruminates over empirAn's attributes of parathvam (supremacy), soulabhyam (simplicity) and spends his time. In that way he says,

Oh! Lord, the pristine one, who is our only means, reposing on Adiseshan [anandan mel], who adorns thyself with the cool Tulasi garland, I wonder how you incarnated and took the vibhava form in this leela Vibhuti ! ( maNNulAykol) I wonder, your state in the nithya vibhuthi,(viNNuLAykol)of being the controller of the eternal stars (nithyasoories ). Revealing yourself, you stay in the thoughts and deeds of your devotees, at the same time, stay afar from nonbelievers. I am amazed by this omnipresent nature of your's. (45)

797. Oh! Lord, you adorn yourself with the cool, fully bloomed Tulasi garland and the sacred crown. Holding the  pAnchjanyam (kOdu paTRi) in one hand and wielding the sudarshana chakram in the other, you majestically fly atop the beautifully winged Garuda vehicle of yours known as PEriya tiruvadi, inclining towards your devotees distress. I was not fortunate enough to experience your presence during the vibhava avatArs. Even though I had not experienced and enjoyed the pleasure  of your presence during your vibhava avatArs, unlike many others, I plead you Oh! Lord, to relieve me, this lowly person who is no less than a dog , from this samsAric cycles of birth and death. (46)

798. Our dearest Lord KaNNan ! Your complexion is as dark as the rain bearing clouds! You are the head of the nithyasoories ! The learned say that, you are present lying on the tirupArkadal  atop tiruvanandhAn (Adiseshan ) being your bed. They say you are boundless too. In addition to that, not being in one place, you are all pervasive. Unable to identify in one place, you are present in an invisible state as antaryAmi in all sentient and insentient things. Further, this lowly person as I am, is unable to view or realise you in your other states such as, para (as in paramapadam ), vyUha (as in tirupArkadal) and vibhava ( as in the incarnations) forms. Hence kindly denote that particular place where I can easily identify you and be blessed by you. (47)

799.kunril ninru vAn irundu neeL kaDal kiDandu maN onru Senru adu onrai uNDu adu onriDandu panriyAi |

nanru Senra nAL avaTTruL nalluyir paDaittavarku anru dEva amaittu aLitta AdidEvan allaiyE || (48)

799. You came down and stood on the hills of tiruvENkatam, even though being in the heavenly abode paramapadam where you are seated. You are in a meditative state reclining in the vast tirupArKadal. Once you put your whole foot and measured this whole world, when you took the tiruvikramAvatAr. Later you swallowed it totally and in another occasion heaved this world taking varAhAvatAr. You created the humans during the good days of varAha kalpa and created the order of the dEvas for the sake of protecting them. Haven't you not done all these Oh! Lord, upon your own wish?

In the same way AzhvAr wants Him, to fulfil his wishes too. (48)

As an answer to AzhvAr's request, emperumAn reveals himself, as He is in the reclining form in Srirangam.

On account of this, AzhvAr dedicates the next seven pAsurams as mangalAsAsanam (benediction) to Srirangam kshEtram.

AzhvAr ThiruvadigalE sharanam.
