PERIAZHWAR THIRUMOZHI.PALLANDU 1 - 1

 PERIAZHVAR THIRUMOZHI.

PALLANDU.

Pasurams- 1 - 12

During his triumph procession through the streets of Madurai city, emperumAn showed himself along with PiraaTTi to  periyAzhwAr. On seeing bhagavAn in the most beautiful form  revealing  his auspicious qualities such as saundharyam (beauty), etc., AzhvAr was concerned and out of great fear started  thinking that, “in this world which is controlled by kAlam (time), what bad might happen to him?, and what evil eyes people might cast on Him”. So he performed mangaLAsAsanam (well-wishing thoughts) to emperumAn‘s divine and beautiful form to stay forever from any evil eyes.

Pasuram 1:

May you be praised for ever and ever and ever and for many crores of years to come as we stand beneath your Divine feet with a continued connection, without any break.

          Paazhaallagup padai poruthannuku pallandu koorudhume!

# There after he calls each and every sect of people to join him in praising the Lord.

In the first place, he addresses those who are not interested in the worldly pleasures, on the other hand wish to do Kainkaryam, (the bhAgavathAs) sing “Pallaandu”, to the Lord who squashed Lanka and the army of the demon, with all precious aromatic substances.

#Addressing the kaivalyArtis ( those interested in AtmAnubhavam), AzhvAr says, “before your soul leaves the body join our group and chant the ashtAkshara mantra “OM NAMO NARAYANAYA”, thus  revealing to the whole world,  singing and dancing Pallandu for the Lord.

Pasuram 5:

Anda kulathirkku adhipathiyaagi   asurar rakkatharai ,

Indai kulathai yeduthi   kalaintha   irudee kesan thanakku,

Thondu    kulathil ulleer  , vandhu aadi thozhuthu   , aayiram namam solli,

Pandai kulathai  thavirnthu  pallandu pallayirathandu   yenmine.

# Lord RishikesA destroyed the demons and became  the supreme master of all the worlds . Those who have entrusted themselves in the community of service to the Lord,Chant His Thousand Names ( Ayira NAmam Solli) leaving behind your old way of living ( ie, leaving behind the lust for material wealth).

Pasuram 6:

Yenthai  thanthai  thanthai  thanthai  tham moothappan   ezhu padikaal   thodangi,

Vanthu vazhi vazhi aat cheikindrom  , thiruona thiruvizhavil,

Anthiyam pothil ari uruvaagi    ariyai   azhithavanai  ,

Pandhanai  theera pallandu   pallayirathandu   endru paduthume  ,

We have been in the service of the Lord for several generations, including my father (Yenthai thanthai), his father (thanthai thanthai),great grandfather (tham moothappan) going on to seven generations before. Praise “Pallaandu”, to the Lord who took the form of “Narasimha”  on the Thiruvonam day and destroyed the demon king, “Hiranyan”, Praise Him “Pallaandu “.

Pasuram 7:

7.THeeyil polikindra chenchudar aazhi   thigazh   thiru chakarathin,

Koyil poriyaale oththundu nindru kudi kudi aat cheigindrom,

Maya  porupadai   vaaNanai  aayiram tholum pozhu kuruthi,

Paya chuzhathiya  aazhi vallanukku  pallandu kooruthume

# We brand our shoulders with the sacred chakkaram for generations. Come let us sing “Pallaandu” to the Lord who is adorned by the Thiruchchakkaram with which He fought against Banasura sleighing off his thousand hands.

Pasuram 8:

8.Neyyidai nallathor chorum   niyathamum  athani  sevagamum,

Kai  adaikayum  , Kazhuthukku poonodu  , kathukku kundalamum,

Meyyida nallathor  santhamum   thanthu yennai   velluyir  aakka valla  ,

Payyudai  naga pagai   kodiyaanukku  pallandu  kooruvane  .

# He has given me everything like rice with ghee to eat, chance to serve Him everyday, thereafter the reciprocative hands full of beetle leaf and nut, ornaments such as necklaces and earrings to wear, in addition to the aromatic sandal paste and so on to make my soul pure. Let me sing “Pallaandu “ to the one who possess the flag of Garuda which is the enemy to the snake possessing the venom bag.

Pasuram 9:

9.Uduthu  kalaintha nin peethaka  AAdai uduthu  ,Kalathathu undu  ,

Thodutha   thuzhaai malar   choodi   kalainthana  choodum   ithondarkalom  ,

Vidutha disai karumam  thiruthi Thiruona vizhavil  ,

Padutha  painnaganai palli kondanukku   pallandu   kooruthume

# Wearing your disrobed  peetAmbaram, eating the food offered to You and adorning ourselves with the Tulasi garland that has been worn  by You, we, showing our servitude will sing Your praise, who was born on the Shravana Day and reclines on the Adiseshan bed.

Pasuram 10:

10.Yen naal yem peruman   undhanukku    adiyom endru   yezhuthu patta  ,

Annale   adiyongal   adi kudil veedu pethru   uinthathu  kaan,

Sennal thoththi   thirumadurayul   silai kunithu iynythalaya  ,

Pai naga  thalai painthavane   unnai pallandu kooruthume.

When on  that day, we wrote and  told you, “Oh Lord   we are your slaves”, from that day, all the people of  our  home who are  serving you , got freed and got uplifted. We sing “Pallaandu” to You, who appeared in Mathura and broke the bow of Kamsa, as well as jumped and danced on the head of the serpent with five hoods.

Pasuram 11:

11. Alvazhakku  ondrum   illaa  ani kottiyar kon   abhimana  thungan,

Selvanai pola thiru male  , Naanun unakku   pazhavadien,

Nal vagayaal  namo narayana   endru naamam pala  paravi,

Pal vakayaalum pavithrane, Unnai pallandu  kooruvane.

Oh! The consort of Sri (tirumAle), similar to Your much sought after, favourite selva Nambi who is faultless and the head of Thirukoshtiyur  which is the gem of this world, and who  is immersed in the thought   that he is the servant of the lord, I am also  your old   servant , Oh Lord who is  divinely pure in many ways.  I would chant “Om namo Naryanaya”   in the  very proper way, in addition to  chanting  several of your names, I would say “Pallandu ” to you.

Pasuram 12:

Phala Sruthi

12.Pallandendru  pavithranai paramettiyai   sarngam yenum,

Villandaan thanai  , villi puthur   vittu chithan  virumbiya   sol,

Nallandendru   navindru uraippar   Namo Narayanaya   endru  ,

Pallandum  paramathmanai   choozhnthirunthu yethuvar pallande.

#  Thus he finishes by giving us the benefit of singing “Pallandu “. If the devotees recite these PAsuram sung by “VISHNUCHITTAH “ of Srivilliputhur about the pure one and His consort, with the bow “SArngam”, they will reach the abode of Lord, and keep praising Him for ever.

Azhwar Thiruvadigale Sharanam .
