TIRUVADARI

Having attained enlightenment and learning about ‘tirumandiram’, Tirumangai AzhvAr explained about it. Later he instructed the heart to reach ‘tirupiridi’. Now here, AzhvAr advises the body to visit BadrikAshramam, which is the seat of tirumandiram. Taking the form of AchAryan ( nArAyanan) and sishyan (naran), EmperumAn delivered the mantram to sishya and thereby to the humans. It is situated in the himAlayAs between the nara and nArAyana mountains.

AzhvAr urges everyone to visit this place as early as possible, when this body that is of elemental nature stays fit to travel as it is very far and in the terrains of the himAlayAs.

968. Before the travails of old age sets in making one incapable of doing anything, unable to even walk steadily, stumbling upon each step, depending on a supporting stick to walk and endure terrible pain similar to having broken limbs; let us worship the lord of ‘Sri Badari’, who with his divine reddish coral lips slurped the life, along with the milk that he drank from demoness poothanA  who came in the guise of mother YashOdA. vadari vaNangudhumE. 969. Much before the younger generation and kids mock at us and say, “look how old you have become!”, looking at us holding our back in pain and having a stick to support in the front, with the shivering body and dark circled blurry eyes, continuously coughing in a high tone; let us worship the lord of ‘Sri Badari’, nestled in the terrain, where the honey drunk bees hover around humming tunes all over. vadari vaNangudhumE.  (2)

970. Oh! Mind, much before, shivering sets in the body, making the nerves project out like twisted ropes and the muscles loses its stiffness, Fear settles down in the heart calculating the distance, eyes and head  swirl up due to the hardship present in undertaking the venture ; with profound knowledge and bakthi towards the lord, chanting his thousand names let us worship the lord of ‘Sri Badari’, where the bees that look like the embodiment of fragrance hover around buzzing musical tunes. vadari vaNangudhumE. 971.Well before the symptoms of old age sets in, leading to stumbling while walking,  swelling up of the eyes and dirt getting collected, not allowing the eye lids to open, before the bile juice could show its supremacy; let us worship the lord, who as a young boy grazed the calves and held the Govardhana mountains when Indra  cast the rain spell continuously for seven days, in the days of the yore and who abodes in the ‘Sri Badari’, where the fishes jump and play in the cool pond situated there.  vadari vaNangudhumE.(4)

Let us pay our obeisances to the lord of ‘Sri Badari’, adorned with the bees hovering cool thulasi garlands, before one dodders around, depending upon the firm support of the stick for every step and succumb to frequent cough while explaining about their youth hood and the pleasures enjoyed thereafter to those questioning about the state they are in. vadari vaNangudhumE.   (5)

973. Much before anyone could attain the travail state of old age, with frail speech and constant occurring of phlegm, before anyone can become fragile, weak and as a result be incoherent ; Let us seek refuge under the lord of ‘Sri Badari’, who as the supreme master and protector has taken me as his servitor, who as the dark hued primordial lord, churned the ocean with manthara mountain and vAsuki snake. vadari vaNangudhumE.  (6)

974.Let us worship the lord of ‘Sri Badari’, who becomes the sole requisite and dependence for those who rely on him; before, the dainty ladies who were once most trusted could mock to others, about our present incapacitated state with frequent coughs that outbreaks the disgusting phlegm and say “look at the state of your relative, how old he has become, always with phlegmatic cough and incapable of anything. vadari vaNangudhumE.(7)

975. Much before, women with beautiful eyes resembling the kuvaLai flowers shoo us away saying “chi chi, move away, you look sickly thin and lifeless. Don’t stay here, you keep coughing all the time.” Before we feel insulted and repent about the words that we have to keep hearing ; reach the permanent abode of “Sri Badari “,where our lord resides adorned with cool tulasi garland. vadari vaNangudhumE. 976. Let us pay our obeisances to the lord of “Sri Badari “, where his ardent devotees, worship him by chanting his thousand nAmAs (Sahasranamam) holding garlands strung with cool tulasi leaves and immerse themselves in the ecstatic state of singing and dancing; before all the senses of our body start to deteriorate leading to disorientation of all our physical activities. vadari vaNangudhumE.  (9)

977. Kaliyan, the king of Tirumangai, encircled by thaazhai bushes has sung this garland of verses advising us to visit the supreme lord stationed  in  “Sri Badari”, where the bees happily buzz around drinking the cool honey. Those who sing and dance rejoicing the divine attributes of ‘Shri  BadrinArAyanan’, are sure to enjoy nothing less than the ecstasy of paramapadam (10)
