254. kaNNan and his cowherd friends return home from grazing with peacock and palm umbrellas called tazhai and tongal. They also played mRudangam , (taNNumai)trumpets (ekkam)and a drum (mattali)on their way back. Looking at the tumultuous gang and kaNNan returning, playing the flute with a peacock feather hanging on one end, all the girls of the AyarpAdi thought it to be a procession of the rain bearing thunderous clouds and peeped out of their windows and balconies. Loosing their hearts to Him they even forgot to have their dinner. (1)

255.KaNNan wears an attire as thin and soft as the petals of the karpaga creeper with no crumples. Over it He wears a pleated waist cloth and a sword tucked in, that looks like a lizard clinging on to a wall. He returns from grazing in the evening amidst all other cowherd friends with peacock feathered umbrella and adorning Himself with fragrant mullai (arabian jasmine) and vEngai (kino flower) garlands. Oh my friends, do not stand on His way loosing your hearts to Him and loose the bangles, as a result of getting weak and emaciated. (2)

256. With swords, catapult, staff made of flower bouquet and wearing upper clothes, kaNNan’s friends come running behind Him. With one arm around the shoulder of a friend, He blows the conch holding it in the other hand to keep the cow’s intact. My daughter was engrossed in looking at the tired child smeared with turmeric, returning from grazing. Immediately the people around started gossiping that they both are having some connection. (3)

257. My dear friend! After seeing kaNNan, my lord who protected the cattle by lifting the ‘Govardhana’, mountain, return along with his friends as a cowherd boy, playing the flute on the street, I realised that He is unparalleled. Come and see, my plight after seeing Him. I loose my heart, my bangles and my attire . Even my mind is not under my control. (4)

258.KaNNan wears the peacock feather on His curly hair. I witnessed the cowherd boys gathering in a circle  holding peacock feather umbrella(tazhal) singing and dancing at the entrance. I will not allow myself to be married to anyone other than this “tirumAl irunchOlai”, kaNNan. Get me in marriage to this victorious kaNNan, otherwise there will be only confusion and commotion.(5)

259.KaNNan, the most beautiful among the cowherd boys comes swirling the sticks, with curly locks of hair, bearing sindooram on the forehead and a headgear along with his friends who hold the peacock umbrella for Him. As He comes in the street with his friends making loud music, let us go and block his way in the pretext of  asking about the ball  that He stole from my house and enjoy His mischievous smile on His coral lips. (6)

260.KaNNan comes behind the cowherd with His radiant self, under the shade of the peacock feathered umbrella. Wearing a blue eyed peacock feather on His dark curly locks of hair and with His sparkling lotus eyes, He comes along with His cowherd friends playing the flute and dancing merrily. Oh! My daughter has lost herself looking at this handsome boy. (7)

261. KaNNan has applied sindooram on His forehead and a tirunAmam, with the help of a leafstalk. With a peacock feather stuck in His dense hair, this little boy comes like lord Indra. I advised my daughter not to stand on His way, and loose herself looking at His beauty. Still standing near the crossroads, she glanced at Him and got emaciated. As a result her costume got loosened and her bangles slid. (8)

262. This AyarpAdi kaNNan comes wearing a flame lily (தோன்றிப் பூ)on His right ear and garlands of common jasmine (மௌவல்)and wild jasmine (வனமாலை) decked on Him. His curly locks of hair cascading on the back, he comes playing with His flute. Astounded by His smartness, my daughter stood motionless in front of Him, that made her weak and thin, thus loosing her bangles too. (9)

263.Overlooking the nityasooris of the upper world ( shri VaikunTam) who were waiting to worship the lord, He came down to AyarpAdi as KaNNan and grazed the cows on the streets. The young girls of AyarpAdi lost their hearts to this charming KaNNan. ViTTu Chittan, the chief of Puduvai, filled with bees swarming gardens, described the same in the above ten verses. Those who sing it  with joy, are sure to attain the highest abode ( The Parama Padam) (10)
