Considering the divine deeds of Krishna, YashOdA fears to feed Him, as she realises that He is no ordinary child. At the end of each verse AzhwAr repeats, "unakku anjuvan ammam taravE”


223: thannEraayiram piLLaikaLOdu* thaLar n^adaiyittu varuvaan*

ponnEy n^eyyodu paalamudhuNdu* oru puLLuvan poyyE thavazhum*

minnEr n^uNNidai vaNYjamahaL koNGgai thuNYja* vaay vaiththa piraanE!*

annE! unnai aRindhuhoNdEn* unakku aNYjuvan ammam tharavE.* (2) 1.


223.Relaxedly you come toddling along with several children of your age, eat the milkrice along with the golden coloured ghee and mischievously come crawling to embrace me. Oh! My Lord you killed the guileful POtana who came with a hip like lightening, by drinking her milk. I now realise you are not an ordinary child and so I am scared to nurse you. (1)

224. I went out after giving you bath and feeding you. Before I could return, kicking away the heavy cart, You killed shakaTAsuran. Entering a house in the north you changed the figure of a young girl with her waist like lightning. Oh! Dear, I realise who you are now and am scared to nurse you. (2)

poymmaaya marudhaana asurarai* ponRu viththu inRu n^ee vandhaay*

immaayam valla piLLai n^ambee!* unnai enmahanE enbar n^inRaar*

 225. Oh! Mischievous child, Maya Nambi!gobbling the sweet dish KummAyam along with butter, you overturned the pots drinking the curds too. Felling down the Maruda trees thereby killing the disguised demons, you now stand innocently. People think that you are my son. Being your mother, I very well realise who you are and so am scared to nurse you. (3)

Kummayam is the famous chettinadu special dish mentioned by Azhwar. This is made of urud dal, moong dal, rice and jaggery

226. Charming the kohl eyed young cowherd girls, You snatched and pulled their pleated saree. Oh! My Lord, dear trickster! Volumes of complaints by others can be published about the numerous mischiefs that You cause to them. After listening to all those magic deeds, I very well realise who you are and so am scared to nurse you. (4)

kappaal aayarhaL kaavil koNarndha* kalaththodu saayththu paruhi*

meyppaaluNda azhu piLLaihaL pOla* nee vimmi vimmi azhuhinRa*

227. Oh! Lord, You gobble the curd and butter churned throughout the day. Tilting it down You drink the milk from the pot that the cowherd folks bring on their shoulders. You still cry for the mother’s milk like a child deficient for it. I very well realise who you are now and so am scared to nurse you.  (5)


228: karumbaar n^eeLvayal kaaykadhir chen^n^elai* kaRRaan^irai maNdi thinna*

virumbaa kanRonRu koNdu* viLaNGgani veezha eRindha piraanE!*

surumbaar menkuzhal kanni oruththikku* choozhvalai vaiththu thiriyum*

arambaa! unnai aRindhu koNdEn* unakku aNYjuvan ammam tharavE.* 6.


228.when the cows and the calves were grazing the paddy, which was as tall as sugarcane, You spotted the single calf which was not interested in eating and threw it on the vilva tree for the fruits to fall, thus killing the demon vatsAsuran. You tempted a young girl having tresses adorned with bee swarming flowers to fall for you with your alluring smile. I know you are not an ordinary child. I very well realise who you are now and so am scared to nurse you. (6)


229: maruttaar menkuzhal koNdu pozhil pukku* vaay vaiththu avvaayar thampaadi*

suruttaar menkuzhal kanniyar vandhu unnai* chuRRum thozha n^inRa sOdhi!*

poruttaayamilEn_ emberumaan!* unnai peRRa kuRRamallaal* maRRiNGgu-

arattaa! unnai aRindhu koNdEn* unakku aNYjuvan ammam tharavE.* 7.


229. Oh! My lord , You enter an isolated grove and play the flute melodiously with your mouth, enticing the cowherd girls with curly tresses. They surround you, engrossed in your music. O dear child, my only fault is that I have given birth to you. Otherwise, I have no material connection here. I very well realise who you are now and so am scared to nurse you. (7)


230: vaaLaavaahilum kaaNahillaar* piRar makkaLai maiyanmai seydhu*

thOLaalittu avarOdu thiLaiththu* nee sollappadaadhana seydhaay*

kELaar aayar kulaththavar ippazhi kettEn!* vaazhvillai* nandhan-

kaaLaay! unnai aRindhu koNdEn* unakku aNYjuvan ammam tharavE.* 8.


230. Even if you keep quiet, the jealous people would love to see you not believing you. You lure the cowherd girls, embrace them, and do mischiefs which cannot be revealed outside. They blame me, I can listen to them no more. Oh bull of Nanda,I very well realise who you are now and so am scared to nurse you. (8)


231: thaaymaar mOr viRkap pOvar* thahappanmaar kaRRaan^iRai pinbu pOvar*

nee aayppaadi iLaNGgannimaarhaLai* n^ErpadavE koNdu pOdhi*

kaayvaarkku enRum uhappanavE seydhu* kaNdaar kazhaRaththiriyum*

aayaa! unnai aRindhu koNdEn* unakku aNYjuvan ammam tharavE.* 9.


231.You captivate and take the young AyarpAdi girls, when the mothers go to sell buttermilk and fathers go behind grazing the cows. Such deeds of yours gives happiness to those who wait to insult you. On the other hand, those who care about you, advise you not to do so. Oh, dear child of mine, ,I very well realise who you are now and so am scared to nurse you. (9)


232: thoththaar pooNGguzhal kanniyoruththiyai* sOlai thadam koNdu pukku*

muththaar koNGgai puNarndhu iraa n^aazhikai* moovEzhu senRapin vandhaay*

oththaarkku oththana pEsuvar*unnai urappavE n^aan onRum maattEn*

aththaa! unnai aRindhu koNdEn* unakku aNYjuvan ammamtharavE.* 10.


232. Taking a young girl decked with bunch of flowers on her hair along into a grove, you spent three quarters of the night with her and came back very late Yesterday. People will gossip about this and talk stories. I am unable to control you. Realising your divinity, am scared to nurse you. (10)

233. YashOdA, with her beautifully decked tresses unintentionally says that she is afraid to nurse the cloud hued lord as penned by the chief of Puduvai, ‘BhattarpirAn’. Those who recite these Garland of verses rich with rhythm and music will certainly become the devotees of Irudikesan  (hRuSheekEsha). (11)
